BPSCA SERVICE DOG OF THE YEAR 2006

Well another great day was had by all at the British Police and Services Canine Association service dog of the year

competition held at the Newbold Revel Prison Officer Training College grounds.

The event as per usual was extremely well organised with competitors from a cross section of professional dog users

including the Police, Army, Prison Service and other agencies like the Nuclear Police and Fire Service.

The main rings were for obedience, agility and criminal work, whilst in other areas the specialist dog and handler teams

were competing in search work for Drugs, Explosives and Accelerants.

Whilst neither Gaynor or myself were in the prizes this year, it was still a day out that we certainly enjoyed very much as

always both from the competeting point and it always proves to be a fun day catching up with people we see far too infrequently.

The competition was once again won by Mick Tustain from Wandsworth Parks Police and his superb Malinois “Ike”,

making this two wins in a row.

Whilst obviously wishing to congratulate Mick and Ike on what was a superb display of teamwork and handling skill, it

would be wrong not to mention the great effort put in by all the other competitors who travelled from all over the country

to take part at the event.

We are certainly looking forward to next year and the Service Dog of the year competition 2007.

Below is a selection of the many photographs that we took on the day!
