A1 K9 Security Dog And Handler Training

For several years A1 K9 have supplied the more discerning security companies with both dog and handler training courses.

There is at present no legislation covering the use of dogs within the security industry other than the guard dogs act and unfortunately the industry's reputation for both poorly trained dogs and handlers has in the main been justified.

Thankfully we are lead to believe that 2005 will be crunch time for those companies whose operatives are untrained as the Security Industry Association will be rolling out the licensing of all operatives working within the manned guarding sector of the security industry.

It is suspected although as yet unconfirmed that following this there will be a requirement for dogs used within the industry to be licensed and heavy penalties incurred by those individuals who utilise unlicensed personnel and untrained dogs.

A well trained dog is worth its weight in gold when correctly used within the security sector, whereas an untrained dog may be a liability and a potential accident waiting to happen.

Merlin, the dog pictured above was trained by us and he and his handler went through the BIPDT Security Dog Handlers Accreditation. Merlin is Ricci's constant companion whether he is working days or nights.

The same dog when off duty(as shown below) is also a much loved and fully integrated member of the family, helping to dispel the myth that a security dog is has to be an alligator on a lead - they don't.

Our thanks to Ricci and family for the lovely pictures.
