Variations of Protection Dogs
Without trying to over-simplify the subject, yet to draw a comparison which may be easily understood by all is not easy – but here goes.
In the same way as people all demand different performance, degrees of luxury and practicality from their cars, the same is true to a certain extent when people are looking for a dog for protection.
Before deciding on what type of dog and level of training you require, it is worth giving some consideration to the following.

The Alarm Dog
Nearly all breeds of dogs can be trained to act as an alarm alerting their owners to the
arrival of strangers on the plot. Some, especially the smaller breeds in particular terriers, often perform this duty naturally without any formal training. It is important, however, to remember that often an alarm dog will offer no resistance to entry by strangers other than to make a lot of unwelcome noise.
The Deterrent Dog
Most large breeds because of size and possibly reputation will act as a deterrent to the opportunist thief etc. The dog is trained to bark at strangers who enter the property unaccompanied by a member of the family unit, or a stranger posing a threat to the handler whilst out walking. This type of dog is not trained to bite and is sometimes referred to as a “bluff dog”.
The Personal Protection Dog (our speciality)
A correctly trained personal protection dog will act as a personal companion/bodyguard, to its handler/family and will act as an alarm dog and deterrent. In addition to this, should the handler be threatened or come under attack, the dog is trained to bite and hold an assailant if commanded to do so. Through exhaustive training, involving many real life scenarios, these dogs are taught, that the security and safety of their handler is paramount.

A Personal Protection dog is like a person trained in martial arts, whilst not looking for trouble it has the skills to quickly draw it to a close should it be necessary.
