Sophie Lewis
Sophie has a great love for all animals but her ambition has always been to work with dogs. Before leaving school she spoke to her careers advisor to find out what avenues may be open for her to pursue a career working with dogs and the answer she got was “hope you have a plan B”.
Not one to give up, Sophie enrolled in college and studied Animal Management and completed her work experience at Pets at Home but was still unable to find a permanent job working with animals.
Sophie then spent the next two years working for a well-known high street fashion retailer, until September 2018, when she applied to A1K9 for the position of trainee dog trainer. During her day long practical interview, the passion she has for dogs was immediately apparent as was her determination to secure her dream job. As the day went on, her drive and personality started to shine through even when it was time to try the bite suit, she was undeterred; it was in her words the chance of a lifetime and by the end of the day we were delighted to welcome her aboard!
Sophie has progressed really well at A1K9 and is becoming a very competent dog trainer. She enjoys building a relationship with the dogs; she is very calm and patient and is happy to try different training methods to help bring out the best in each of the dogs in her care.
When she’s not training dogs, Sophie spends her spare time looking after and schooling her horse Beau and she can often be found taking him for a ride on the local beach at Pembrey Country Park.
